BURIAL PRACTICES IN ANCIENT EGYPT
Egyptians were strong believers of the afterlife. They believed that
their deceased were sent through the afterlife to be judged by the god of the
underworld, Osiris, who gives them the boon of returning to the natural world.
They strongly believed that the afterlife needs to be earned because the
afterlife consisted of the most memorable and desired moments of life on earth.
These moments or lifestyles were returned to the dead in their afterlife where they will continue on, cherishing life.
The Egyptians believed that the soul that returns to body to continue its journey to the afterlife needs to have a body to use when it returns. In order for a body to be intact, it has to be well preserved. Gaining knowledge from the dessert, where bodies laid to rest were perfectly mummified due to hot climate (natural process of desiccation), based on this process, they started an artificial process of mummification. This became an immense part of Egyptian religion because it provided them a passage way to the afterlife
Burial Practice includes
1. Mummification Process
2. Funeral Procession
3. Opening of the Mouth Ceremony
4. Burial goods (placed in chamber)
5. Burial tombs
